Everybody has one record that means more them than any other; a record that they have fully internalised: every lyric, every note; a record that is so familiar that listening to it is like going home.
My record is Led Zeppelin II.
If you don't like Led Zep II we can't be friends.
I could go on about how important the album is, how was a blueprint for heavy metal and other fanboy gushings, but that's not what I want to talk about. I want to say why this album is so personal to me and how it shaped my listening tastes.
I was 12 (or maybe 13) when I bought it as a part of a Three CDs for £10 deal on Amazon. For some insight into what else I listened to back then, the other two CDs were Rage Against The Machine's and System Of A Down's self-titled albums. I was quite the playground revolutionary, with my Che Guevara t-shirt and copy of The Bolivian Diary. But anyway, this album brought a kind of awakening. I started to listened to more rock music in a similar vein: Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Jethro Tull, Hendrix, Cream, The Doors. Yeah, Led Zeppelin inspired my musical tastes very early on. Without them I wouldn't be the long haired crusty-type I am now.
Sure, I love Led Zeppelin's other releases. I would even concede that some of them are better than II, but that doesn't matter. Led Zeppelin II was my first big musical love, and it has stayed at my personal number one ever since.

Yeah.
I got a whole lotta love for it.
